Universe is nonsimultaneous,
so lots of stars we see in the sky do not shine any more
while their light is still travelling towards us.

This means that looking to the starry sky
mostly means looking into the past.

Using the seemingly fixed position of certain stars
for calculating angles and distances,
the most courageous early navigators were able
to sail across the ocean and finally around the globe.
